Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Akoto, has said the government is committed to invest in the Agriculture sector to support farmers.

Speaking at the national farmers day held in the eastern regional capital, on Friday Koforidua December 2, 2022, the minister commended the Akuffo Addo regional government’s efforts of farmers to consolidate food security in the country hence the policy of planting for Food and jobs, which yield good results. 

Dr. Owusu Akoto assured the farmers about how the government supported the sector with nearly 2.5 billion Ghana cedis for the supply subsides fertilizer, seeds, and farm inputs to farmers across the country. 

He further congratulated the award-winning farmers and urged them to take advantage of government policies and support. 

Speaking at the same occasion, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, MP for Keta constituency and a member of the Agriculture Committee of parliament debunk the claims that the funds provided by the government are reaching the farmers but rather entering the pocket of individuals in the party.

Kwame Dzidzorli Gakpe, disclosed that the policy of planting for Food and jobs by the government is a good policy but its implementation is poorly implemented.

He added that the government is importing tractors into the country but it’s not reaching the farmer and therefore the government should set up Agric mechanization centers to help farmers across the country through the various regional offices.
