A 43 year old Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe mixed farmer from Juaben in the Ashianti Region has been crowned the overall National best farmer 2022.Nana Yaw Sarpong, was crowned at the 38th National Farmers Day celebration at Koforidua the regional capital of the Eastern region. The ceremony saw him take home a cash prize of one million Ghana cedis, a tractor, trailer, boom sprayer, and souvenirs.

Nana, has over 900 acres of oil plantain, 248 acres of maize, 17,000 poultry birds, dozens of livestock, and acres of cassava, cocoa, cashew, and mango with 145 workers.
Professor Akwasi Asabere, a mixed-farmer based in the Techiman-North of the Brong-East Region, emerged as the Second Runner-Up (Overall National Best Farmer), he won a prized tractor with implements.
Yaa Adjele, from Wassa Amenfi west in the Western region, was also crowned the best female national farmer of the year 2022.A total of 15 awards were given at this year’s ceremony, held on the theme, “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition.”The other categories included the National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Crop Farmer, Overall National Best Fisher, National Best Marine Fisher, National Best Inland Fisher, National Best Fisher Farmer, and National Best Fish Processor.
They received various souvenirs for distinguishing themselves in their respective fields of agriculture.
President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, delivering the keynote address, commended Ghanaian farmers for their commitment and resilience to feeding the citizenry in the face of the global economic and food crises.
He pledged his Government’s full support to the farmers, with the needed incentives and policies in order to foster continued and steadily increased productivity.
He announced that his Administration had since 2017 provided more than 2 billion Ghana Cedis in subsidies to enable the farmers to acquire fertilizers and improved seeds needed for their work.
The objective, according to him, is to empower the farmers to achieve their targets for food sufficiency.
President Nana Akufo-Addo emphasized agriculture being a priority of his Administration, therefore, the necessary measures and initiatives were being put in place to foster agro-processing and value addition for the benefit of the Ghanaian farmer.
